We Have Our Work Cut Out For Us!

As we get ready to sail into our 2018 season, we cant help but reflect on what an incredible season we had in 2017. Every season that we have had so far has surpassed the one that preceded it. That means 2018 has its work cut out for it! 2017 was amazing! It’s going to be a tough act to follow. Let’s take a closer look…

2017 was the first full year that we put a lot of focus into our social media and your response was overwhelming. As of this writing, we are  closing in on 700 followers on Twitter, 600 followers on Facebook, and 8,000 followers on Instagram! And now we have a blog! Not only have our passengers taken photos and shared them—Islanders, vacationers, professional photographers, and amateurs have been liking us, tagging us, sharing us, and sending us photos almost daily! We couldn’t be more grateful to every individual who has followed along and been a part of our success. We still have pics we haven’t posted yet!

2017 also saw some incredible honors bestowed upon our Captain Kurt Peterson. Along with 39 other incredible individuals, Captain Kurt was recognised by the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce in their prestigious ‘40 Under 40’. Kurt was really humbled to be included when he saw the calibre of the other island business people selected. Catboat Charters received the Certificate Of Excellence from TripAdvisor last season too! This means a great deal to us as it is awarded to businesses who consistently receive excellent reviews from their patrons—can there be higher praise? We don’t think so. Also, Laurel Redington of MVYRadio selected Kurt as Person Of The Week! Kurt’s interview is still on-line in the station’s archives if you’d like to have a listen!

Catboat Charters also had the incredible honor of appearing on the cover of Vineyard Vines Magazine! The incredible photos and article about Kurt were a true feather in our cap. Working with Shep and Ian and their team was a fantastic experience—one we will never forget.

It’s also important to us to note that we would be nowhere at all without the continuing support of the men and women of The Office Of The Edgartown Harbor Master. Charlie, Will, Mike, and everyone else on that incredible team have been behind us since the very beginning. Day in and day out, they keep that harbor organised and it’s an honor to work with them.

Early in the season, we had pledged to donate 15% of all sails after September 10thto Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. We thought it was a terrific way to introduce people to the joys of autumn sailing! We bundle up, our guests have a hot toddy, and some of the sunsets are the most spectacular of the year! When the results were tallied, we were thrilled to report that with your help, we raised $1,400.00 for MVCS! That, combined with the Possible Dreams Auction sail with authors Crispin Haskins and Tom Dresser, we raised $4,150.00 for MVCS last year! Naturally, our goal is to raise even more this season—of course it is! The best part of Catboat Charters is being able to make a positive difference and give back to the community that we love so much.

So, as you can see, we weren’t kidding when we said that 2018 will really have to pull up its socks if it’s going to be better than 2017, but we have every confidence that we can do it. We know that we can do it because we have you on our side. Our passengers are the best there is. Every season we welcome old friends and make new ones. It’s a true privilege—thank you. 2018? We’re off to a great start. See you on Memorial Day Weekend!

Keep sailing!
