At Catboat Charters, our guests’ safety, comfort, and satisfaction are our top priorities. All of our sails include water and sparkling water from our cooler. Guests are welcome to bring all the snacks and refreshments they desire. Our cockpit is very spacious and comfortable, with new seat cushions and pillows. There is more than enough room for guests to spread out or snuggle up for a memorable private sail.

Catboats were developed hundreds of years ago as the ideal working boats of the Northeast. They were the engine of the early maritime industries in the early 19th Century. Catboats were used for all types of work including swordfishing, scalloping, hauling freight, and moving passengers from place to place. Catboats have a rich and deep history in this region, which is why a sail aboard a Tigress is the epitome of a Martha’s Vineyard sailing experience.

Tigress‘s American Flag sail is a tribute to the catboat Cleopatra that sailed these waters during the Civil War. It is said that her painted sail was a means to heal some of the pain caused by the great division of the war.

Tigress’s sail was stitched in February 2019 by Julia Doyle-Kingsbury of Squeteague Sailmakers. Captain Kurt was working as Julia’s sailmaking apprentice at the time of the build and assisted through the entire process. http://Squeteaguesailmakers.com

While her workboat roots are evident, Tigress was built as a recreational cruising yacht with very comfortable accommodations above and below decks, including a private enclosed head. Tigress has been meticulously restored and maintained and is a living reminder of the old world luxury of the 1920s.
